Palestinian Rapperz (Gaza)

Palestinian Rapperz was the first rap group to emerge from the Gaza Strip. Their self-proclaimed ‘Palestinian Resistance’ began in 2003 when group members Mohammed Al-Farra, aka D.R the Dynamic Rapper, Mahmoud Fayyad, aka Kanaan, Moataz Al-Hewaihy, aka Mezo, and Ayman Meghames joined lyrical forces. The group describes Hip Hop as “a peaceful way to protest against the occupation of their land and oppression of their people”. PR has collaborated on songs with DAM and other artists from around Palestine and the Middle East (via the Internet), although the group was unable to perform outside of Gaza for many years because of border restrictions. PR frontman Mohammed Al-Farrah was able to come to the US for the premiere of the documentary film “Slingshot Hip Hop”, in which PR is featured, at the Sundance Festival, though he was unable to return to Palestine because of border closings (which also prevented the rest of the group from attending the premiere). PR continues to build its fanbase throughout the Middle East and abroad in the hopes of one day being able to tour together outside of Gaza’s walls.
