Of course, Hip Hop as we know it was born in the United States, though its roots are global and its impact has been worldwide. In the western hemisphere, Hip Hop spread first from the East Coast to the West, and then north and south, putting Canadian and Latin American rap on the map in the early 1990s. In the colder climes, American and Canada, specifically, Hip Hop has continued to grow and evolve and has introduced new artists from around the world, who happened to have been born or immigrated to the US or its northern neighbor.
