Lowkey (London/Iraq)

Kareem Dennis, aka Lowkey, is a poet, playwright, political activist and award winning Hip Hop artist. He was born to a British father and Iraqi-born mother and grew up in the UK. Lowkey first earned his name, literally, at the age of 17, when he bested a local rapper named Loki at an open mic session in central London. By 2005, Lowkey earned critical acclaim for his mixtape, “Key to the Game”, winning Best Newcomer awards at the Lyric Pad Hip Hop Awards and in Undercover Magazine. Since then, Lowkey has made it onto several major radio stations throughout the UK and has toured internationally with US Hip Hop legends Immortal Technique, Canibus, and Dead Prez. His debut album, “Dear Listener”, was released in early 2009, followed shortly by a compilation mixtape of Lowkey’s favorites from the “Key to the Game” mixtape and the album, called “Uncensored”, which is now available on iTunes. After touring with Immortal Technique in 2009, the two released “Voice of the Voiceless”, a powerful song that touches on racism, world revolution, war, and colonialism. LowKey also released a remake of his song “Long Live Palestine” with the leading stars of pan-Arab rap, The Narcicyst, Shadia Mansour, Eslam Jawad, and DAM, and travelled with M-1 of Dead Prez on a humanitarian aid mission to Gaza. Lowkey is currently working on new projects, while writing daily about global politics on his Twitter feed @lowkeyuk.

A melancholy anthem to “Free Palestine”, Lowkey adds to the chorus of pan-Arab Hip Hop artists drawing attention to the suffering of Palestinians.

In this sweeping critique of American society and government, Lowkey questions whether policies will change in the new administration, asking, “Is it Obama’s nation or an abomination?”

I think lowkey is the best rapper. His songs gives out meanings unlike those other rappers that just rap about love. Hope you all the best Lowkey 🙂
